History of Thai Society for Geriatric psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry (TSGN)

Beginning of GenPIC

The Thai Society for Geriatric psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry (TSGN) was first called Geriatric Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry Interest Group (GenPIC) working under the Psychiatric Association of Thailand (PAT) and established during late 2006 by Prof. Pichet Udomratn inducement, the president of the PAT at that time. Together with another additional 17 psychiatrists, Assoc. Prof. Sawitree Assanangkornchai was the first chairman of the group, Assoc. Prof. Poonsri Rangsikachi and Asst. Prof. Sookjaroen Tangwongchai were vice-chairmen, Prof. Nahathai Wongpakaran was secretariat. Psychiatrists in the group were all expert or interested in geriatric psychiatry and or neuropsychiatry. That was the intention and vision of Prof. Pichet Udomratn for Thai psychiatrists to develop expertise and exchange knowledge in this area to catch up the developed countries.

The committee and core members of GenPIC were psychiatrists from universities and psychiatric training center all over the country. The group was officially established and set up a first activity on 16 March 2007. The meetings continued in Bangkok and upcountries. Academic meetings were held 4 times annually. The group expanded academic network with psychiatrists interested in this area all over the country by the support of the PAT. The group was affirmed as a child organization under the PAT in August 2009 meeting.
